Team Chat

Capo has a built-in team chat so your group can communicate without leaving the app. It's not trying to replace WhatsApp — it's there for quick match-related chat and system notifications.

What you can do in chat

  • Send messages — WhatsApp-style messaging to your group
  • @mention players — Tag specific people to get their attention
  • React to messages — Add emoji reactions
  • See system updates — Match notifications appear in the chat

System messages

Capo posts automatic updates to the chat for key events:

  • Match created — When a new match is scheduled
  • Teams released — When teams are saved and shared
  • Match completed — Final score and quick summary
  • Award winners — MoM, DoD, MiA announcements

These keep everyone informed without you having to manually post updates.

Tip

System messages appear in a different style so you can tell them apart from player messages.

Admin moderation

As an admin, you can:

  • Delete messages — Remove inappropriate content
  • See message history — Chat retains the last 1000 messages

Players can only delete their own messages.

When to use Capo chat vs WhatsApp

Capo chat is good for:

  • Quick match-related chat — "Running late", "Who's bringing bibs?"
  • Seeing system updates — All match notifications in one place
  • Keeping football chat separate — If your WhatsApp group covers other things

WhatsApp is probably still better for banter, memes, and general group chat. Capo chat is focused on the football.

Not trying to replace WhatsApp

Most groups still use WhatsApp as their main chat. Capo chat is a complement, not a replacement — it's there if you want it, but the app works fine without using it.

Notification settings

You can control which notifications you receive. Open the menu (hamburger icon on mobile) and go to Settings to toggle notifications on or off for:

  • Chat messages — New messages in the group chat
  • @mentions — When someone tags you specifically
  • Match updates — Teams released, results posted, etc.
  • Booking reminders — When RSVP is open or filling up

Adjust these to suit how involved you want to be — some players want every update, others prefer just the essentials.
